“Is it the New Moon again, already? Fabulous! Let’s start something amazing, shiny and new!!”

If you are starting a new project with all of your heart, this is the weekend to do it and these are the cards you want! Let’s take a look at our cards as components:

• Two of Cups: Deep emotional connection or attraction.
• Four of Pentacles: Ready for a new start in the earthly (physical) realm.
• Four of Wands: Celebrating the win! (Known as The Marriage Canopy).

When we put them together: it is a good weekend to start something new, particularly of a romantic nature – do not let the Mercury Retrograde prevent you from following your heart where it would happily lead! As the song says, it’s no better to be safe* than sorry.

“And now, I am leaving. With or without you!”

Clearly, yesterday’s message was not forceful enough: LET’S GO!!!

To review: Mercury, ruler of transportation, communication, interaction – includes dealings with vehicles, computers, assorted electronics and people – is in retrograde (MRx). And The Fool insists we set off on our new adventure right-this-minute-now-ready-or-not-here-we-go without particular consideration for MRx beyond whatever planning has already taken place.

Sigh….

Actually, if you review previous posts (December headed into January), you will remember many readings regarding thinking, planning, deciding, preparing for new travels, pathways, projects in the New Year. The only thing left now is to actually DO IT, and believe it or not, the time is now. If you did in fact heed the advice of the previous readings, you are as ready as you are ever going to be and MRx is merely an inconvenience.

On the surface, this may seem like the nightmare of the high school exam, naked and no pencil; it is actually the dream where you win the big game and spike the football. Probably. You’ll never know until you try, and that starts now with this first step.

“What could possibly go wrong?”

Isn’t he adorable?! So reminiscent of the chimney sweeps in Mary Poppins, chock full of magic and possibilities, and brimming over with positive energy! And more than a little bit mad if he thinks running off on an adventure at the outset of the Mercury Retrograde (MRx) is a good idea.

That brings us to the bad news/good news portion of our reading:

BAD NEWS: Mercury is in retrograde, January 5 – 25, 2016, and it is already proving to be a doozy! (I have already had several significant arguments with various people important to me – YOWZA!).

GOOD NEWS: As it happens, the Cheshire Cat was right –  we’re all a little mad here. And a good thing, too – this calls for brave and crazy!

The naive spirit of adventure introduced by The Fool is a blessing during MRx; it would be so easy to pullback and hunker down until the crisis passes (only, there isn’t actually a crisis and there is work to be done, and all the fear and dread you dream up will not change that) but The Fool isn’t having any of it! Adventure awaits! Time to go!!

THE BIG TAKEAWAY: If used wisely, this brave and crazy energy can be used to help us cope with MRx pitfalls; think it through (wise advice for MRx) and bravely execute the plans you make even if it feels a bit fool-hardy (see what I did there? 🙂 )

Most importantly, keep calm and carry on – it’s only a little retrograde.

“I don’t need your calculations. I have already corrected our course. Don’t be ridiculous – of course I’m sure!”

The energy of this Page is very compelling; quick-witted and energetic, waiting will no longer be tolerated, and neither will input. She has made up her mind on the new direction, her confidence is flawless and her argument irrefutable. When she says, “Come at once if convenient. If inconvenient, come all the same!” you forget where you heard it before, and follow her wherever she leads.

Yes, her mind is glorious and her drive compelling, no question about it! But ask yourself, “What if she is mistaken?” AND “Can I get myself out of this if she is wrong?” Alice fell down a rabbit hole; Page of Swords leaped – after all, she was already armed – and if you are not prepared to fight, you may find yourself in trouble (not the good kind!).

TODAY’S TAKEAWAY: Proceed with caution! Trust but verify! Do your due diligence and decide for yourself. If you want to be part of the escapade, be prepared to be a partner rather than a follower.

TODAY’S MAGIC WORD: Togetherness

Each of us has personal goals, personal responsibility, our own pathways – all good, all important – but there is more than that. There is also uniting the tribe and working for common good, for celebrating togetherness in our thoughts and deeds, and not just during the holidays. You are not the Statue of Liberty standing alone on an island; you have people you can count on just as they count on you – reach out to them. Talk to them; share ideas, find common ground, work together where you can.

It is time to support independence with teamwork.

3…2…1…HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Finally! The holidays are over and we are ready for a new year to begin! We make plans, and promises,  and resolutions…and we break, disregard, or forget each and every one of them as January moves forward.

The cards above warn us of the usual trappings – too much passion to move forward without enough careful consideration, or planning. We set ourselves up for failure right from the start, and find ourselves frustrated and disappointed with our lack of success.

The New Year looks quite promising and good things are awaiting us; with careful thought and planning, we can go forward with purposeful strides to success. New ideas are awesome, and passionate enthusiasm is certainly welcome, but realistic planning is important as well. Our reading reminds us to take time to consider the following:

What do you want to do in 2016? What are your goals?

• Do you want to lose weight? How much?
• Do you want to change jobs? How quickly?
• Do you want to further your career? To what level?
• Do you want to continue your education? In what area?

What is your time frame? Is it reasonable to your current life?

• What are your family responsibilities?
• What is your workload?
• Do you have the free time or flexibility to change your schedule? 

Are your goals flexible?

• Will six months work? Will 18 months be more realistic?
• If you need more than you realized (books, classes, lessons, etc), can you adjust your “start” position? Can you adjust the definition of success?
• If you find yourself in clear pursuit of the wrong goal, can you change the pathway to a new goal without feeling you have failed? 
• If you find your goal to be “too easy” or unsatisfying, can you expand upon it?

Speaking for myself, I will be returning to regular yoga classes; I will start with two a week, and add as I progress. Days, times and teachers are flexible, so I should have no difficult finding a good fit for my current (busy!) schedule or (slacker!) level. I know the benefits will be far-reaching (more relaxed, more fit, more in touch, more in tune), and I can build on it (meditation, chanting) as the year progresses.
