2016 September: Full Singing Moon

Mercury Retrograde got you down? Dreading the lunar eclipse? Feeling sluggish in mind, body and spirit?

Yeah – it’s been going around.

The September Full Moon has many names but I have chosen to focus on Singing Moon; let us make a joyful noise as we embrace Autumn and prepare for Winter. If we are harvesting, we shall sings songs of gratitude. If we are creating, we shall sing songs of welcome. We shall greet the moon, the harvest, the season, the eclipse, the changes around us as well as within us, with joyful noise!

(And, I can hear you, “Joyful? Who’s joyful? Mercury Retrograde, etc, dammit!”)

Yes, I know. What I am telling you is, “FAKE IT ‘TIL YOU MAKE IT!”

I know it’s been rough and the cards remind us; none of this is permanent, effort has rewards, and the only stopping you from happiness is you. Time to rest, relax, rethink, reorganize – and rejoice! You do not need a reason any greater than life itself; every day is a new opportunity to go a new way.

Use this month’s energy to rejuvenate yourself; let go of what does not serve, declutter your mind and your space, and prepare your home to welcome the change of season.

QUICK TIPS: Need a little help getting into the mood?

  • Pick up seasonal fragrance candles to burn in your kitchen and living room.
  • Bake a dessert (maybe with apples?).
  • Drink a seasonal beverage (apple cider? pumpkin latte? spiced herbal tea?).

“There is no sugarcoating it: these are hard times, very hard times indeed.” Barbara Moore

Physical need (as represented in the card above) suggests a lack of most basic comforts such as food and shelter; there are people suffering in the world for lack of the most basic necessities, and we should all remember that when we want to complain about the price of gas as we fill our BMW or become overly irritated by an iPhone not sending a text. The Five of Pentacles is not here to commiserate, it is a reminder:

Maintain an attitude of gratitude.

  • Do not complain about your long drive to work; you have a car.
  • Do not complain about your heavy workload; you have a job.
  • Do not complain about the busy schedule of your children; they have social lives.

Also portrayed on this card:

We are in this together.

((The following is meant to be a human statement, not a political one.))

We cannot “build a wall” as the answer to our place in the global community; isolationism (local, federal, national) is not the answer. We live in a global world; all the problems of this world belong to all of us. (If you doubt this, go back to school and demand to be taught the whole truth about The War in Europe that became World War II – do not let yourself be put off with “we won.” as an answer because it is not.)

The World matters to us because we live here, and we are in this together, for better or for worse – the choice is our own.

09/12/16 Rose-colored memories. Six of Cups

“There are three sides to every story – yours, mine, and the truth.” Robert Evans

6C Steam

((The Steampunk Tarot, Moore and Fell))

Now that Autumn is on the way, it is easy to drift into nostalgia; school days, snow days, holidays – fond memories tied to mundane occurrences or specific special events. As likely as not, the memories are warm; over time, they gain a rosy tint because we prefer to keep happy memories in our minds and hearts.

REMINDER: A little nostalgia is a good thing! It maintains hopel.

CAUTION: Too much nostalgia is a bad thing. It distorts reality.

Buddha cautioned against attachment and expectation; they take us out of the present moment, and  lead to disappointment and heartache. If we are honest, we know nostalgia represents both attachment and expectation – a longing for the past as well as vision for the future (based on that past). Many people will tell you the past is the best indicator of the future but I disagree; the past may be the most likely indicator of the future based on our repeated choices…but we can always decide to choose differently.

TAKEAWAY: Enjoy your memories but leave them in the past!

Make the future you want with your own choices; create your life and  make new memories – you will never catch lightning in a bottle twice so do not waste your efforts on the recreation of a rosy past that never quite existed as you recall.

09/09-11/16 WEEKEND: Seven of Swords, Knight of Pentacles, Page of Swords

((The Steampunk Tarot, Moore and Fell))

TAKEAWAY: If you are stuck, and not sure what to do, try something new!

Lately, many people have described feeling pressed – under the weather, literally and figuratively – speaking for myself, I am quite sure I am shorter than just a week ago. With clear thought difficult to process (Thanks for that, Mercury Retrograde!), and course of action fuzzy, we have been muddling along with no feeling of forward motion.

THE ANSWER: CHANGE!!

Starting out on a new pathway with a new plan (as we have been discussing of late) with all the same old habits is NOT a recipe for success at this time. The time to try new methods, follow different ideas, employ alternate stratagems, is now. TODAY!

And as always, enjoy the weekend as best you can!
