Since we are all facing a “new normal,” and it seems unlikely things will return to pre-2020 rhythms’ (probably just as well, if we are honest), this may prove an ideal time to make big changes. If you are afraid of embarrassment or failure, this is the perfect time – who would notice? So again I ask you, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

 THEME: CLEAN IT UP. Clear out the clutter and detritus – physical, mental, spiritual, emotional – you do not need it. Sweep, sweep, sweep it away!

INFLUENCE: Knight of Pentacles. Move forward with purpose to improve resources, and invest in your projects.

INFLUENCE: The Devil(15). BEWARE OF DISTRACTIONS!!! Do not allow distractions to keep you from moving forward.

STRATEGY: Page of Pentacles. Good news for new beginnings – keep you eyes and ears open for the messages and opportunities you seek.

Autumn has arrived and we are surrounded by apples, pumpkins, and mums. The many delights provided by colors, textures, flavors, and mild weather signal a celebration of the changing season. It really should be no surprise the harvest season brings messages of abundance.

 THEME: MILK AND HONEY. Nurture abundance with authenticity.

THEME: TRUTH BE TOLD. The time has come for transparency.

INFLUENCE: The Empress (3). Nurture growth and abundance.

INFLUENCE: The Star (17). See The Star – Make a Wish! (choose wisely)

STRATEGY: Nine of Swords. Overthinking what you will do is as powerless as regretting what you have done. KNOCK IT OFF! No one has time for that now.

Honesty is the best policy – or so we tell children – yet we struggle with it. We tell 100 lies a day:

“I’m fine.”

“No trouble.”

“Happy to.”

“It’s okay, I’ll take care of it.”

“I’m sorry.”

Etc., etc., etc.

Why? A variety of reason, almost all of which are about avoiding conflict outside ourselves by keeping the conflict within ourselves.

The message of transparency is so important, TRUTH BE TOLD forced itself into our reading by stubbornly refusing to stay in the deck when I drew MILK AND HONEY. Heed the message: nurture abundance with authenticity and transparency; gather your harvest with sincerity and joy.

Energy has been shifting this week; we moved from Virgo to Libra, Summer to Autumn, quarantine to a new normal (in some places). Everyone is feeling it, to greater and lesser degrees of comfort, and plans are certainly being made.

And now, to the cards!

THEME: Observer. Be objective; keep it in perspective.

INFLUENCE: Eight of Swords. Don’t fall into analysis paralysis. It’s no better to be safe than sorry!

INFLUENCE: Two of Wands. The wait is over – time to decide and get a move on!

STRATEGY: The Wheel (10). The Wheel turns with or without you; it is time to move on, or be left behind.

A few people have mentioned writing a book – I say stop thinking and start writing. A few people have mentioned wanting to take up a new hobby – I say less online research and more trips to Michaels to see (and touch!) the materials. A few people have mentioned wanting a new job, or to change, careers – I say get your resume together, and get it into the hands of people who can help.

In keeping with yesterday’s message of acceptance, we see the theme furthered with patience to wait, and receive. As a society, we spend so much of our time being pro-active, it does not occur to us “Good things come to those who wait.” As the new season begins to show signs of physical changes around us, it may serve us well to take a step back and observe before we make decisions to move (what we hope will be) forward.

THEME: Yin. Time to receive; let things come to you.

INFLUENCE: The Hierophant(5). Accept offered counsel (but know it is okay to go another way).

INFLUENCE: Four of Swords. Rest, re-group, relax, and prepare for launch (or re-launch).

STRATEGY: Five of Wands. Beware of unnecessary battles, and avoid death by committee.

The beauty of Autumn is in how we prepare for next Spring; harvesting, cooking, canning, preserving, storing, sharing, gathering, nurturing – all meant to hold us together through the darkness. Accept the changes around you as they are part of the life we live, and do your part to move peacefully forward with your tribe (friends, family, loved ones, etc.).

The Autumnal Equinox is today – perfect balance once again – and the beginning of our peaceful withdrawal from Summer. This is a time of acceptance – things will change most completely as everything prepares for the long, winter nap – and it is in our best interests to embrace this energy as well as the new season.

THEME: PEACE. Acceptance of the situation brings a peaceful calm moving forward.

INFLUENCE: Judgement (20). Time to choose; you know what you know – use it!

If you have any regrets, or resentment, about losses in 2020, let them go. There really is no time for handwringing; accepting what must be done – and doing it! – are the only really choices if you wish to sleep well at night.

Welcome to the weekend, everyone!

You know what’s a perfect plan for the first weekend of Autumn? De-cluttering! I know this has come up before but it really is best done before the weather turns in earnest – it is easier with some sunshine.

THEME: CLEAN IT UP. Take good care of your thoughts, words, deeds, and body – clean them up, keep them clean, guard them with care – you live here.

INFLUENCE: Page of Cups. Do not allow emotions to cloud judgement; you are not a child, no drama is needed.

INFLUENCE: Nine of Wands. Establish boundaries; be prepared to defend them but don’t be in a hurry to fight.

STRATEGY: Six of Pentacles. Mind your progress – do not spare the resources.

I would add the importance of self-care here; whatever that is for you – maybe a jog, maybe the decluttering itself, maybe a pumpkin spice latte with apple cinnamon muffin, truly whatever – make time to include it. THE BIG TAKEAWAY: Do not shortchange yourself.

Let’s talk about duality and the importance of balance.

So here we are, still in practical Virgo Season, dealing with the conflicting energies. The come-here-get-away-take-your-time-but hurry-it-up energy is certainly a recipe for drama and a headache, and absolutely no one has time for that nonsense. Normally, we would associate these conflicts with Gemini Season but that really is unfair – imbalance can strike anywhere at any time, and that is the truth of the matter.

But as always, forewarned is forearmed.

And now, to the cards!

THEME: PEACE. This was yesterday’s theme as well – just goes to show we don’t always pay enough attention the first time. This card speaks of inner peace, tranquility and personal acceptance; not merely worthwhile goals but necessities for the balance we seek. Work on this in earnest, starting with yourself.

INFLUENCES: Knight of Wands and Seven of Pentacles. These influences can be very useful if you can integrate them – they represent quickly moving energy on the way to somewhere else, and slow, steady progress (respectively). Frankly, I have no idea how these two are meant to work together, so I see them more as a tag team; you can access the energies in turn, balancing the otherwise all or nothing results they would likely yield.

STRATEGY: The Moon. Since I am a serious Selenophile, I am always thrilled when The Moon shows up. Here, she reminds us to seek the beauty of truth in all things – sometimes, it is not obvious but present nonetheless.

I am well aware balance can be difficult to achieve but it really is worthy of pursuit. Make it your priority and you will not be sorry.

Lately, I have heard a great deal of lamenting about loss and sacrifice, and as always, I think: Didn’t we listen to the stories our grandparents/great-grandparents told of of The Great Depression and World War II? Is it actually possible that we have (overall) lived so well for so long we don’t understand the difference between genuine hardships and inconvenience? Is it really so difficult to color your hair, or drink beer and watch the game, at home?

Speaking for myself, since no government agency has knocked on my door to ask for the rubber of my tires, I think we’re doing okay. And I am not saying people are not genuinely suffering as we all know too many certainly are but so far, they aren’t the ones throwing the tantrums.

What a waste of energy!

THEME: PEACE. Radical acceptance results in pure peace. Start with yourself!

INFLUENCE: Seven of Swords. You are not required to attend every battle; take up your swords and go home – live to fight another day.

INFLUENCE: Five of Pentacles. Physical comfort may not be readily available but you can make the best of it with some effort. Get off your knees and roll up your sleeves.

STRATEGY: Eight of Swords. Procrastination, stagnation, and fretting are NOT working for you; it is self-indulgent. Knock it off – you’ve got important work to do!

If you think it’s time to slow down now that Summer is over, THINK AGAIN! The slowing you are currently feeling is a trick of the current Mars Retrograde – do not fall for it! (Pardon the pun but it was built right in.) Believe it or not, we are headed into a creative, building season; create, make, build, promote, and prosper at will! So decide what you want to do, how you want to do it, and get going!

THEME: BUILDING BLOCKS. Everything is a work in progress – what will you do with it? The choice is yours once you get moving. Please remember not choosing is a choice; do not surrender your power that way.

INFLUENCE: Ace of Swords. Fresh ideas are all around – use them to build new pathways.

INFLUENCE: Three of Swords. Ignorance may be bliss but knowledge is power; a little disappointment never killed anyone – use the new info to your advantage.

STRATEGY: Queen of Swords. The sword is not ornamental but it is more rapier than cudgel; deliver targeted information with kindness as well as honesty. Do not go out of your way to make enemies.

We seem to have forgotten we make the world we live in, and if we want changes, we must make them. We are 100% responsible for our owns actions, and inactions as well, so we have no choice but to start with ourselves. This is not a time for secrets, lies, and hypocrisy – you cannot build on sand! Be honest with yourself, and everyone else, to build something real and worthwhile – a candle can be a beacon when things are dark.
