“You can’t do big things if you are distracted by small things.” Unknown
((The Steampunk Tarot, Moore and Fell))
We are headed into the weekend with a timely reminder: do not be de-railed by distraction.
DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND! Distractions have their place; there are times when we genuinely need to be pulled away from something, someone, some idea, that begins to turn obsessive. Distractions can be something mindless (fidget spinners) or something menial (folding laundry) or something creative (painting) or something nurturing (soak in a tub). Distractions are not necessarily a problem, and are often a welcome break.
Right up until they are a problem, causing their own set of troubles.
We are all well-aware both Heaven and Devil are in the details but ask yourself: Am I too distracted by details that do not matter?
- Are there the same number of sugar packets as stevia packets? Unless you know how many of each you will exactly need – and really, how could you? – this is trivial. Put some of each out and move on.
- Do the napkins match the plates? Use white, they go with everything. Move on.
- Are all the books lined up evenly in the bookcase? If you want people to read them, this could not matter less. If you don’t want people to read them, glue them all together and never worry about it again.
If you seek out perfection down to the smallest detail, you will inevitably miss the beauty of the whole. Please do not do this. Please take a break from distractions and focus on the beauty and blessings in your life. Go forward today with an attitude of gratitude and appreciate the bounty of your life for surely you have many blessings others long to receive.
Enjoy your life – this is the only one you have.
