12/07/15 You Can Go Your Own Way. The Hermit

“To see the glow of your own light, go into the dark.” Barbara Moore

Today, The Hermit drops in to provide an important reminder: look Hermit Steamwithin rather than without.

“So oftentimes it happens, that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we have the key.” The Eagles

You have what you need, use it; should you discover some outside help is needed, do not be too prideful (or shy) to ask for it.

Happy Monday!!

12/05/15 WEEKEND: Three of Pentacles, Three of Swords, King of Wands

((Cards featured from The Steampunk Tarot by Moore and Fell.))

This holiday season is off to a rocky start to be sure and yet, it still is not more than we can handle. Let’s look at our cards:

Three of Pentacles: Making progress on a project.

Three of Swords: The power of knowledge comes with sadness.

King of Wands: Driven by passion.

What does this mean for the weekend? Simply put, do not let disappointment dim your enthusiasm for holiday fun – go after it as you please!

Paraphrasing a wise man of history:  in times such as these, it is important to remember there have always been times such as these. It remains our responsibility as a free society to pursue life, love and happiness to the best of our abilities, and with an amount of care for those around us as they struggle in their own pursuits.

12/04/15 Not One Step Back! Seven of Wands

It has been a rough week!

If you are watching the news – local, national, or world – you know 7W Steameverything and everyone everywhere is under siege. The 24-hour news cycle brings us heart-breaking, soul-crushing news every minute of every day, and this week has been over-saturated with clips, photos, and interviews of misery, death and devastation. It is beyond endurance.

And yet, we endure. We survive. We fight. And we fight. And we fight.

Do not squander your energy; choose your battles wisely, use your best strategies, shelter your flame – be sure to live to fight another day, probably tomorrow.

12/03/15 I could tell you a lot, but it’s not In a gentleman’s code. Five of Cups

I can’t express it better than Lady Day herself; it’s disappointment, loss, 5C Steamsadness, grief – it won’t kill you and it will pass but probably not today. Allow yourself to feel the loss – acknowledge it, respect it, release it – allow it to pass through you but not consume you.

Be sure to take care of yourself today; dress for comfort (today in Chicago, that includes hat and scarf), sip your coffee or tea slowly (savor, savor, savor), and remind yourself of the joys that fill your life (candy canes in December, daisies in April).

Be happy. Be safe. Be well.

With Love and Light, Selene.

12/02/15 Be Still, I Know What I Am Doing! Knight of Wands

“I assure you, I do not need to read those hieroglyphics in order to conquer this situation.” Barbara Moore

KW Steam

The Knights are on the move this week; their energy is compelling, and dawdling will not be tolerated…which is exactly why you must apply the brakes – used wisely, this energy can lead to success.

Do not allow the confidence and passion of these Knights to unseat common sense. A bold plan can be a good thing but only if it is executed with an amount of care.

Harness this energy for your positive use; follow your instincts and take care not to trample those around you as you move forward – you do not want them holding hostility with your name on it.

Onward ho!!

12/01/15 And for My Next Trick…. Knight of Swords

“Look at my plan; have you ever laid eyes on anything so lovely?” Barbara Moore

KnS Steam

Your plan is perfect…and as with all perfect plans, it is only useful until the first shot is fired. So what does your Plan B look like???

Be flexible today – you are going to need it.

Good luck and may your God (or Goddess) go with you.

11/30/15 It Is Heavy, And It’s Not My Brother. Ten of Wands

Mary, Mary, quite contrary, tell me – from where does your burden 10W Steamgrow? Is it secured in a past you have faced, or in a future you do not know?

This time of year, it is undoubtedly a good dose of each. Past holiday memories, both good and not so good, create standards we feel we must meet or exceed. Future (including the current season!) events carry the weight of unfulfilled promise – this year will be better! – and best laid plans to make new fabulous memories.

Forewarned is forearmed; give yourself a break, do not put unnecessary pressure on yourself, on others, or on the holidays.

Enjoy the season’s beauty, and togetherness.

Can’t manage to work it up for the big party? Order pizza!

Living Tarot: Temperance

“What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity devoid of troubling or depressing subject matter – soothing, calming influence on the mind, rather like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue.” Henri Matisse

We have often been told, “All things in moderation.” A reminder to enjoy the bounty around us without the folly of excess. Overall, it is very good advice we should certainly endeavor to heed in our daily lives. Of course, some days are more moderate than others – not to worry, there is always tomorrow. In fact, tomorrow is the great gift of Temperance.

I would like to dismiss the idea of Temperance as disdain, restriction, or abstinence. Carrie Nation is not welcome here and need not apply. (Don’t know Carrie? Check her out at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrie_Nation).

It is important to understand our humanity is the combination of elements, virtues and…

2015 Thanksgiving Holiday Week

We interrupt our normal daily blogcasts to bring you this special tarot bulletin: THE HOLIDAYS HAVE ARRIVED!!!!

The big events this week: The Beaver Moon on Wednesday and Thanksgiving* (and its Big Weekend, kicking off the Holiday Season) beginning Thursday. There is a whole lot of activity at large in the world  – much of it rather horrible – and all of it vies for attention at your table. Let’s take a look at the first reading, going into the holiday week:

Crisis. Strength. Order.

This requires little in the way of interpretation; world events bring us one crisis after another, including images of very real people digging deep within themselves to find the effort and energy to restore order to their homes, their families, and their lives. For many of us, this creates a renewed sense of gratitude as we hold our loved ones close, so grateful for their safety and our togetherness; although we prefer not to think about it directly, we are very aware, “There but for the grace of the gods, go I.”

I would like to say these feelings of love, gratitude and togetherness will extend through the holiday season. Yes, I really would like to say that….but I cannot. From the looks of things, this will be a rough holiday week/weekend. Let’s take a look:

6S SteamTower Steam

The problem: too much pressure on the holiday. We want normalcy, comfort , togetherness, and happiness so much, we forget the most important part – we are all the same flawed individuals we were last week. We always hope the holidays will bring out the best in us; we long for the holiday feelings of our youth, before were responsible adults in charge of the actual holiday, when all we had to worry about was making sure Grandma gave us the turkey leg. But as a very wise man once said, you can’t go home again. And that is okay.

In an effort to make the very best of this holiday week, I offer the following suggestions:

Be realistic: Do the best you can but don’t get carried away – a butter sculpture of the First Thanksgiving is not necessary and will not be missed.

Don’t sweat the small stuff: Rolls burned? Throw them away and don’t worry about it. Spoons on the wrong side of the plate? Let it go.

Be patient: Forgive yourself and others for transgressions; let old wounds and barbed remarks pass without notice – they don’t serve you and you don’t need them.

Relax: Putting pressure on yourself and others is a sure way to ruin a holiday.

ENJOY: You are meant to enjoy this time with family and friends so do just that – enjoy!

*Thanksgiving holiday refers to the National holiday in the US; but the sentiments may be applied to any holiday, worldwide.
