2020: The year of perfect vision.

If you believe everything happens as it should, when it should, for what is ultimately positive purpose, the biggest takeaways of 2020 must be:

–Blinders are off; we see everything quite clearly, warts and all, for what may be the very first time in our spoiled, First World lives.

–Caring about each other not only matters but is imperative; if we insist on going our own self-interested, self-involved, selfish way, others will be impacted – likely negatively – and that is simply not okay, no matter how you want to look at it.

There is a great deal of change swirling around, not all of it necessarily good or bad but certainly overdue. It really is anyone’s guess how things are going to shake out over time; control outside of ourselves is an illusion. No matter what example you have been set in the past, it is time to accept personal responsibility for the results of your own thoughts, words, deeds, and intentions.

WELCOME TO OCTOBER!!!!

This is my favorite month for many reasons, the least of which is not the full change of season into Autumn. I love Autumn so very much! Apples, and pumpkins, and chai – Oh, my!

The Veil is thinning as we head to the Hallows (commonly referred to as Halloween, All Saints Day, and All Souls Day), and this can be a difficult time for many people as their dreams become more vivid, and perhaps they “feel watched.” Since they are not imagining this contact, it would be unfair to dismiss their concerns. However, we have no need (or reason) to encourage (or tolerate) drama – there is already enough of that, thank you – because we simply do not have time for it.

And now, to the cards! 

 THEME: CHOP WOOD. Keep well grounded. Make practical applications the priority.

INFLUENCE: Eight of Cups. DO NOT INVITE DRAMA INTO YOUR CIRCLE!

INFLUENCE: Ace of Pentacles. Fresh start in resources – keep open to new (likely unexpected) opportunities – do not allow fear to get in your way.

There has never been a more important time to REALLY THINK about what you see, what your feel, what you know, and what you have been told. Increasingly, we learn more than we ever knew before, and in our seriously electronic age, faster than we ever could ever have imagined possible. It is a great time to be alive but personal responsibility, which seems in short supply, has never been more important.

No one said any of this would be easy.

THEME: THINKER. Critical thought required. It is time to question everything, and do not be afraid to change your mind when you have new information (from legitimate, verifiable, accredited sources).

INFLUENCE: The Devil (15). Distractions are fun but by design, prevent your progress. Keep that in mind. (NOTE: If you labor under the delusion you “do the best work under pressure,” KNOCK IT OFF! It’s simply not true, for you or anyone else, that is fear talking – shut it down!)

INFLUENCE: King of Cups. Master emotions. You should always follow your heart but be sure to take your brain with you – the combination of critical thought and heartfelt pursuit is unstoppable.

STRATEGY: The Fool (0). It is time to take a leap of faith. Let’s get this party started!

People feel discontented; the year is running the last length of the track, and as so many have said, “What do we have to show for it?” Personally, I cannot relate to this attitude – every day above ground is a good day in my book. If you cannot find reasons to be grateful, you must not be looking at anything at all because if you were, you would see things. More on that later.

 THEME: ALL THAT GLITTERS. Beware of Fool’s Gold. Just because it is shiny, does not mean you want it. Just because it is expensive does not mean it is worth it.

INFLUENCE: Four of Cups. Do not create your own discontent with expectation and attachment. Do not attempt to resolve temporary disappointments with permanent solutions (you do not want to limit future options).

INFLUENCE: Four of Pentacles. Mind your resources; be generous with your time, be careful with your money.

STRATEGY: Ten of Swords. THANK GOODNESS THAT’S OVER! Time to move on to the next thing.

We have forgotten to be grateful for many things:

— Indoor plumbing.

— Every breath of air.

— Every beat of your heart.

— Being young.

— Growing old.

BLESSINGS! BLESSINGS! BLESSINGS! We take too much for granted.

Are things perfect? Of course not.

Is there room for improvement? Always.

Should we be striving to make things better. Yes – every little bit helps.

Should we trample everyone else to get where we are going? No; your goals should include a lack of casualties.

(NOTE: I am not saying “and harm none” because a) I’m not sure that is always possible, and b) The Universe knows what it is doing in terms of greater good, and does not take its marching orders from me. However, intention does in fact matter – and it matters a great deal, despite what lawyers like to say.)

Lead with an attitude of gratitude, and you there will be plenty for which you are grateful.

Everybody talks about needing signs, wanting direction, feeling adrift – all very real feelings but often, entirely self-imposed. Why? Because they choose to ignore the signs they receive. Why? Because it’s not what they want. But as the Rolling Stones famously remind us, “You can’t always get what you want. But if you try sometime you find you get what you need.”

Shadow work (looking into the dark parts of our inner-self) is an important part of personal development; we cannot be peace, love and light all of the time. However, it serves no purpose to dwell in darkness for too long – it can be overwhelming, bringing its own imbalance. There is a great deal to be said for recognizing when enough is enough.

As you work on yourself, pay close attention to takeaways; recognize when you have learned lessons to help you move forward – take a rest – and actually move forward. Wallowing in your self-discovery will not serve, and it is a self-indulgent when there is so much work to be done.
